Board Members
President, Martha Michel, MPH: Born out of a need to be involved in a youth activity, my journey with Folklorico Latino de Woodland began in 1997 as a youth dancer. For seven vibrant years, from 1997 to 2004, I immersed myself in the rich traditions of Folklorico, finding both joy and a sense of belonging within the troupe.
In 2002, I was a recipient of the Marina Ramirez Scholarship. Fueled by a desire to further my education, I embarked on a new chapter at Sac State in 2004.Though my academic pursuits took precedence, my heart remained with Folklorico Latino de Woodland.
In 2010, answering the call to give back to the community that had nurtured my passion, I returned as a volunteer, eager to contribute to the organization's growth and impact. Stepping into leadership roles, I joined the board in 2011 and assumed the mantle of president, a position I proudly held until 2016.
During my tenure, alongside dedicated board members, I spearheaded initiatives to bolster the group's financial stability, ensuring its longevity and ability to continue sharing the beauty of Folklorico with the community. Recognizing the importance of mentorship in nurturing young talent, we introduced a program that brought seasoned adults into our fold to guide and inspire the next generation of dancers.
In 2022, armed with a Master's in Public Health, I emerged equipped with new leadership skills poised to make a lasting impact on both my career and my community. With a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion for Folklorico Latino de Woodland, I stand ready to continue championing FLdW’s mission, further enriching lives and preserving the cultural heritage that means so much to me and countless others.

This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking”
